Extended Producer Responsibility for Used Oil Management

Government of India has notified Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Second Amendment Rules, 2023 by addition of Chapter-VII “Extended Producer Responsibility for Used Oil” vide MoEF&CC notification No. G.S.R 677(E) dated Sept 18, 2023 and has been commenced from 1st day of April, 2024.

As per the said Rules, every Producer of Base Oil or Lubrication Oil and Importer of Used Oil shall have obligation of Extended Producer Responsibility to meet the respective targets of recycling the used oil in the country by purchasing extended producer responsibility certificates from registered recyclers to ensure environmentally sound management of used oil.
